Job interviews are a challenge to many. The element of surprise of not knowing what may or may not happen during or before the appointment makes this stage of job search a big challenge to many jobseekers. Most especially in Singapore where everything is adorned by competition, this stage of the job search process really is a handful and causes worries of varying degrees. Do you have a job interview coming up? Do you not know how to properly go through all the preparations for this appointment? This checklist is meant to help you go through this affair. Let this list serve as your guide to acing your upcoming job interview and hopefully, landing the job/career that comes with it. 1) Locate the office building and try your best to find out the best way/road to get there. Keep in mind that you will encounter the rush hour on your way to the appointment. A day or two before the job interview schedule, task yourself to experiment on possible ways to get there. This way, you will avoid getting late due to traffic. 2) Dress to impress, so take out your best corporate attire for this upcoming appointment. Even though the company is very well known for its laissez faire environment, this is something that you must do in order to put more weight and depth to the personal brand that you are trying to sell. 3) Print three more copies of your resume and bring these extra copies with you. Do not assume that the recruiter has more than one copy of your cv. The interview might actually be panel type or the recruiter could have already lost his first print out. It will do you good if you shell out just a few more dollars for the printing of your credential papers. 4) Go online and take advantage of the many job interview articles published there. Unsure about how to answer a common interview question that you have a feeling will be asked to you? Do not know how to properly present all your credentials/achievements? Want to check if your definition of goals is correct? These things can all be read online. This blog, for instance, can help you sort out the particulars and prepare you for a smooth-sailing and definitely effective job interview affair. 5) Find out, take note, and practice proper conversation etiquette. For instance, while speaking with the recruiter/interviewer, make sure that you make eye contact. Avoid having your hands wander while the interview is going on, too. You may be nervous, but not trying to avoid this will only make the recruiter feel awkward. Also, try your hardest not to stutter as this will only disrupt your normal speech pattern and hamper the messages that you are trying to draw across.
